MANUEL ÁNGELES ORTIZ (1895 - 1984):

Manuel Ángeles Ortiz was a Spanish painter, set designer, and ceramist associated with the Generation of ’27. Born in Jaén in 1895 and passing away in Paris in 1984, he played a significant role in the cultural and artistic circles of his time.

Growing up in Granada, he developed close relationships with influential figures such as Ismael González de la Serna, Federico García Lorca, Manuel de Falla, and Rafael Alberti. Ortiz illustrated numerous poetry books from the Generation of ’27, showcasing his artistic talents and collaborative spirit.

In 1922, Manuel Ángeles Ortiz moved to Paris, where he formed a close friendship with Pablo Picasso and Juan Gris. From 1923 to 1932, he became part of the renowned "École de Paris" (School of Paris), a term used to describe the vibrant artistic community in the French capital.

After returning to Spain in 1933, Ortiz faced the upheavals of World War II by moving to Buenos Aires. He later returned to Paris in 1949, where he continued to contribute to the international art scene.

Manuel Ángeles Ortiz passed away in Paris in April 1984, leaving behind a legacy that reflects his engagement with the avant-garde movements of his time and his significant impact on Spanish and international art.
