Biography of Xavier Corbero:

Barcelona, 1935

Catalan sculptor Xavier Corbero studied at the Massana School in Barcelona and the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London. He worked at the Medici Foundry in Lausanne, where he lived during a crucial period of his training and was influenced by Pablo Gargallo and Henry Moore.

From 1966 to 1968, Corbero produced series of etchings and lithographs and later also designed jewelry.

He participated in the Hispano-American Biennial of 1955 and in the May Salons of Barcelona, where he received the Manolo Hugué Award (1960) and the Ramon Rogent Award (1961).

In 1963, he held his first solo exhibition in Munich, where he received the gold medal from the state of Bavaria. He has exhibited in various European countries, New York, and Japan, with his works present in the MOMA in New York, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

Corbero alternately resides in Paris, Barcelona, and New York, and he has created a complex of old houses in Esplugas de Llobregat intended to serve as a residence for visiting artists in Barcelona.

He played a prominent role as an advisor to the Barcelona City Council in the selection of works by internationally renowned artists to be placed in the streets and squares of the city for the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games.
