Painter, sculptor, engraver, illustrator and set designer, Antoni Clavé is one of the great figures of 20th century painting. From figurative beginnings, it evolves, passing through different stages, towards abstraction.
**BIOGRAPHY OF ANTONI CLAVÉ:**
Barcelona 1913 - Saint Tropez 2005
He is one of the most relevant figures of contemporary art. Trained at the Barcelona School of Fine Arts with Angel Ferrant in modeling and by Jose Mongrell in painting. A republican combatant in the Spanish Civil War, Clavé settled in Paris in 1939. At that time, his experience in advertising posters and collage was enough to address in a very personal way the art of lithography and the very varied assemblages and sculptures object since his deal with Picasso in 1944.
Recognized in Spain after his exhibition at the Sala Gaspar in Barcelona (1956), he already enjoyed international prestige, receiving awards such as:
- Halimark from New York (1948)
- David Bright from the Venice Biennale (1954)
- Tokyo International Biennial (1957).
A continuator of surrealism and present in numerous exhibitions around the world, Clavé’s work can be found, among others, in the following MUSEUMS and COLLECTIONS:
- Bilbao Fine Arts Museum
- Picasso Museum of Antibes
